vegan knowledge

I was disappointed when I found that my new born son had dairy and egg allergies because that meant I had to give up on my new found passion for baking. As a family we all love our cakes and desserts and I kept feeling deprived & miserable when I had to skip every time. Until I discovered vegan baking. I tried out a couple of recipes on various food blogs and found them all to be from this AWESOME book.
I have posted these ones that I found online with pictures on my own blog: [...]
I would suggest that you try them out, and if you like them, then go out and buy the book, like I did.
It’s quite small and not very impressive looking, next to the heavy hard covered tomes on the bookstore shelves but don’t let that fool you. Terry and Isa are pure geniuses. and there are many many recipes in this book. Yes 75! and possibilities for endless variations!I have eaten butter and egg laden cakes all my life and I LOVED the ones I easily whipped up in my own kitchen thanks to the easy recipes from this book.
I also make them into cakes rather than cupcakes.
Sure some of them call for a few ingredients that you may have to head to a specialty store to find, but most are from common ingredients you probably already have. Also they are not exactly healthy with quite a bit of sugar, margarine or oil but this book doesn’t purport to be “healthy”- there are a few low fat recipes, but most are quite decadent and delicious.

Have tried many vegetarian/vegan recipe books over the past 25 years – this book gives easy, tasteful recipes. Just made Homey Veggie Stew w/Dumplings yum. I was out of celery and celery seeds and added bell pepper instead – and the recipe did not disappoint.
The book gives you easy variations to original recipes, and this would be a perfect book for a new vegan.
There’s a tofu salad with a dressing so delicious I use as a fondue-style dipping sauce for roast vegetables, and the African Sweet Potato Soup is dinner party delicious.
The Gold Standards used to be Moosewood and Millenium cookbooks, but this book proves you don’t have to have 20 ingredients to make a vegan meal your carnivorous husband will love.
everything from this book has worked out really well… and all have been eaten rapidly by those who I put them in front of (mostly non-vegans come to think of it).
i love this wallet! it’s cute, roomy, and has plenty of pockets to organize things. the card slots were a little tight when i first got it but that doesn’t seem to be a problem anymore. i got the giraffe one and i love how it’s spots are peace signs. great wallet, love it
I have had the whale wallet for a few years now, and I love it. I travel a lot, and it holds up under ever situation. It never fails to get awesome comments. I have never had trouble with the zippers or card packets. I like that it has the bill fold, inside zip, and outside zip pockets, but it isn’t bulky. Also, it can be tossed in the washing machine and hung up to dry.
This is overall a great wallet. I haven’t had any issues with it. The only thing I would change is I wish it came with one of those plastic thingies for holding pictures, etc.
I WOULD like a little more space inside, but that would ruin the wallets, which are darling.
I am a vegan teenage girl, and I have made many of these recipes for my meat and cheese loving friends and I have had great results. The first ones I made were the Oreo cupcakes, made with Whole Foods organic oreos, of course. Everyone loved them. In fact, I was not even able to sample one as everyone at the party scooped them up and went back for seconds before I could get over to the dessert table! I also made the plain vanilla ones a couple times, and they have always been well received. I made my non-vegan dad the peanut butter cupcakes for his birthday (tip: they taste great with a slice of fresh strawberry on top) and he LOVED them. He even requested I make them for one of his office parties! I have not made all of the recipes in this book, but all the ones I have made so far have been 10 stars out of 5, even with the omnis!
i’ve tried every flavor of these mcdougall soups now and i really like them all. they’re the perfect eat-at-your-desk quick lunch!
Sorry to say I thought it was tastless…not good at all…I even through out part of the one cup I made…unfortunately I am stuck with 5 of them I cannot eat because they will not take them back…JudyK
Had this item on my public wish list. Got it for Christmas 2009. Excellent beginners guide. Some things they use, I don’t use, but then I am Marcobiotic. So some things are a little different. Still in all a great beginners book. If you are looking to add vegan meals to your diet or change you entire lifestyle. This is a good one.The Complete Vegan Kitchen: An Introduction to Vegan Cooking with More than 300 Delicious Recipes-from Easy to Elegant
This book is for everyone Vegan’s kitchen. Not only are the recipes excellant, but first part of the book explains the tools one needs and defines the differents between grains, seeds, nuts, etc. It’s an education and makes one aware of how we eat, prepare and manage our foods. Thank you RE
This vegan cookbook is actually the first one I have purchased. It is full of helpful, easy to understand information as well as many recipies from simple to complex. I would recommend it for new veg’s as well as the seasoned veg.
good book good recipes helpful for new ideas on what to eat when you are vegan
This is honestly my most used cookbook. It’s probably got all the cupcake flavors smeared across the pages! Let me say that I had never made a cupcake in my life before I opened this book and now I’m known as “the girl with the cupcakes”. It’s pretty much expected that at any social function I attend, I will be bringing cupcakes. I’ve baked my way through most of the recipes in this book and managed to get a little creative on my own! It’s well-written, totally unintimidating for a baking novice, and EVERY cupcake has turned out beautifully (even in my 50-year-old oven with the door that doesn’t close all the way!). I can’t thank Isa and Terry enough for this book!
I’m not vegan, but I LOVE the results I get from these recipes. They are incredibly moist and have beautiful texture. The recipes are quick and easy, with concise, “real-person” instructions. I have also substituted real milk for the soy, (still using the vinegar to create buttermilk substitute) and things turned out just as well. This is a great cookbook.
This is one of my favorites from this company. It’s low-calorie and tasty. It feels like I actually ate something more than just soup. The package is a bit smaller than some of the other varieties, probably to keep the calories low.
I agree with the other reviewers who commented on the filling aspects of this product. I had no idea that 190 calories could keep me full for over 4 hours! For someone who is having a rought time losing the baby weight after child number 2, this food is awesome! True, the taste can be a little bland… but I’ve played around with some spices to make it a little more interesting. But honestly, it doesn’t taste bad and I love a) the convenience and b) the fullness factor. I will be buying this product again shortly.
I have been a vegetarian for over 15 years, and became a vegan eater 3 years ago. Just one month ago my husband joined me in the latter! Now I really needed inspiration, so I could keep him interested and make sure that meals would be not only nutritious but also delectable, and appealing to the eye. This book has it all; and it is truly a 30 minute- a – recipe book. I am literally cooking my way through it. I have yet to try out something that wasn’t incredible. The Pleasing Greens Soup was characterized by my husband as follows: “I wish I could bathe in it.”
The book is innovative and imaginative, and I love all the suggestions at the bottom of the recipes for variations on the latter.
It is an absolute must have for anyone who is a vegetarian or vegan; whether you have been for a long time or you are just starting out.
I just made the Mango-Ginger Tofu and I must say that it’s so, so good! Although it was a bit more tedious than I anticipated it was definitely worth it..I served it over a brown rice variety and was joyously surprised by how flavorful and delicious it was. You’ve got to try this recipe out! You won’t be disappointed!!
The meals I have been eating for the past 3 weeks (ever since I got this book) have been almost entirely from this cookbook. It really does making vegan cooking and eating much simpler and more approachable for me. I highly recommend it.
