fascinating rawfood facts

Still being relatively new to the ‘raw/living’ lifestyle, anything that aids, and encourages is wondrous. Philip proves that life can change, be enhanced merely by adopting this way of eating. Sounds simple? It is. Then the magic happens. Your entire being, inside, and out transforms. Benefits beyond mere weight-loss abound, this I know to be true.
While preparing for a health/wellness challenge at work, I ran across Philip in an online venue. During this journey, my research came across a plethora of information, Philip always stuck out. As my journey/transformation took place, again, and again this man became a phenomenal resource. As friends began noticing the profound change in myself, they would always want information. My first recommendation is to check out Philip. He is living proof of what is possible, if you let it.
Serendipity let our paths cross early on my journey. Philip is special, I do not give compliments lightly. During my life I’ve encountered many folks from many paths, some ordinary, some famous, and some infamous. Phil is the real deal. Whether your new to this lifestyle, or been around a while, you cannot help but be astonished by Philip’s achievements.
During times of doubt, challenge, I would always think back, if Phil can do this, so can you, so can anybody. Philip has shed over half his body weight. My own challenge is about half of his. Since beginning this journey in early February, I’ve shed over 70 lbs. More benefits than mere words can say.
Philip’s presentation here is a must for anyone wanting to take charge of their life, reclaim it, own it! Whether for weight-loss, or well-being, I cannot recommend this resource highly enough. What do you have to lose? Old habits, thought patterns that hold you down, and back. Give yourself permission to be your best self. A good start to your own self is right here, watch it, learn, be inspired, and enlightened.

This is a must for the Raw Food kitchen, yes it takes time, but the recipes taste really good! I think this book is a good compromise, the other books out there have recipes which don’t taste good, or they take WAY too long.
I was told to get this Raw Food Cook book as I am just getting started in the raw food way to cook. The recepies are easy to do and taste so good.
Before I purchased the book I wanted to know if it was easy to follow. The pictures look so inviting you just want to make them all.
I got this book for Christmas, along with an Excalibur food dehydrator. So far, the recipes I’ve made have been delicious and my family loves them. It can be time consuming, because you need to think ahead on some recipes in order to be able to dehydrate them. But it is well worth it, and actually making some of the items ahead, cuts down on final prep time of getting food to table after work.
This evening I made the Mango Wraps pictured on the front of the book, and the Potato Salad (which is really raw Jicama). I did substitute Yellow bell pepper for the Red bell pepper the recipe called for – because my son doesn’t like Red bell pepper. My husband and son gobbled them down and went back for seconds. So, I like that the family is liking the fare too.
The photos are beautiful and the recipes, although some do require thinking and planning ahead, are easy to follow and straight forward. All in all, I really love this one and would recommend it to anyone that is high raw, or just experimenting. YUM!
You can see the photo of what I made for dinner from this book at [...] to see just how mine came out. OH, and I made the Creamy Thai Dipping Sauce also, for the Mango Veggie Wraps. Easy and yummy!
his is a great and wonderful book. I recommend it for anyone wanting to try new raw dishes.
If you’re interested in starting a raw food lifestyle but aren’t sure if it’s for you, then I absolutly recommend this book. Carol keeps it practical, doesn’t get too technical. Just great advice and some great recipes on how to make the transition from the(SAD)Standard American Diet, to raw. It’s all about baby steps. She mentions things like thinking about your favorite foods and trying to find their raw equivalents, such as replacing your favorite bagels with Ezekiel bread (no it’s not %100 raw but is still healthier for you because it’s baked at low temperatures and made from sprouted grains). Also to think about the raw foods that you already eat, like fruit or seared tuna, and expand on those. She also advises to start out with trying to make only one or two of your daily meals completely raw, and then gradually build from there. I’ve bought a lot of raw food books recently and this is definatly the one you want for making a friendly, non-scary transition into the raw foods lifestyle.
Also there were some reviewers that criticized Carol for mentioning her modeling fame and media raves about her beauty. I have to say in her defense, this is a book about her life and experiance with health and raw food. I mean she is a super model and her looks are what sells. And it seems the point that she’s trying to make is that no matter how beautiful people think she is, she herself never really felt that way because she just didn’t feel healthy and good on the inside. She was thin but always hungry and had many health problems that she tried to cover up the best she could (like most people seem to do) by taking pills. This is her story about how all of that changed once she started to pay attention to what she was eating. A lot of the other raw food books I have are really very good, but I started to feel overwhelmed. Reading Carol’s book made me feel like this is something I can actually do.
Not the best book about beginning raw food. This book probably is more for those who can actually afford going by her tips (shopping at Whole Foods, Wild Oats, buying hundreds of dollars of juicers and processors.) Not many recipes, and those that are included are recipes you could find on any raw food websites in addition to the little information about raw food you find in this book. I agree with the other reviewers, you learn more about what a crappy eater Carol Alt was pre-raw food and less about the actual raw food information you want to hear about. Definitely a book I would suggest NOT to buy, a waste of money.
This is a GREAT book for those just starting to eat raw or who want to learn about it. I’ve read about the raw diet for years so there wasn’t anything new here…but I thought Carol was very motivating and explained things very well. She makes you feel like she’s just like you and that helps you feel like you can do this too! I think some of her suggestions are better suited for people that have alot of money to spend on food or who live in big cities where you can find a big supply of good raw foods – but like she says “you get what you pay for”. Highly recommend to those that need some raw food motivation!
This book was the first raw food book that I bought, and was sufficiently inspirational to get me “hooked” on raw for life! Carol does an amazing job! This is a wonderful book for beginners, or raw foodists who are having difficulty staying raw–struggling with energy, cravings, and hunger. The addition of raw meats and dairy are extremely helpful options…and important ones for many people. I would have liked more in-depth information and explanation regarding the raw meats and dairy products. Also, an example of an average day, or week to show us how Carol eats on a regular basis would have been great. I guess it comes down to experimentation and finding out what works for you as an individual. Overall this book is the one I go back to again and again–and I have almost EVERY raw food book in print–a library of over 50 raw food/uncook books. I always try to go vegan, thinking that it’s healthier–I mean, afterall Carrie Underwood looks awesome and she’s a vegan…She’s also in her early 20′s. But every time I try to eat raw vegan, I end up back on cooked food and I lose the amazing benefits of raw food in my life. 90+% raw is definitely the way to go–it totally changes my life–I’ve been eating raw off & on for the last 5 years. Actually, when I’m not eating at least 90-100% raw, I’m only existing/surviving, not living. So, for me, this book has made an incredible contribution to my life and well-being. There just isn’t much out there as far as a raw food diet that includes animal products. I absolutely love animals and wish that I could be a vegan and feel good. Green juices are extremely helpful…Carol’s recipes and suggestions are definitely do-able. Kim Cohen has a book that will be helpful in this area, for those of you who want more info on a raw diet that includes animal products. I’ve looked into Aajonus Vonderplanitz’s books–it seems that many people who follow his program report not enjoying eating the diet he supports–which, for me, sounds horrible. I want to be healthy AND enjoy the food that I eat! With Carol’s book, you will definitely be on your way down that path. This book has everything (except for the scope of info. I mentioned above)–her story & experience, testimonials, information, input from experts, delicious food, and enough basic recipes to get you started…. enough motivation to propel you to learn more, to start your journey to RAW…and, maybe, LIVE for the very first time!
When my daughter first told me that she was thinking about eating nothing but raw food, I was shocked. I asked her what she was going to eat and she proceeded to tell me about all the preparation that would go into a meal and that she would have to plan a day to two days in advance. She sent me information from some of the more popular web sites and when I looked at them, I was overwhelmed by all the mixing, blending, juicing, and dehydrating that was going on. My answer to her? It should be SIMPLE. While the process was daunting, the concept of eating raw was logical. I started searching the ‘net myself and found Frederic Patenaude’s site by way of Roger Haeske’s site, howtogoraw. I was hooked. I have an autographed copy of Instant Raw Sensations and it’s not a recipe book that’s put on the shelf. It’s kept on the counter and I USE it. The writing is inspired, the illustrations are funny and apt, and the recipes are commonsense, easy to prepare, and luscious. The first time I threw a tomato and a mango in a container to be blended into a salad dressing, I thought, “I must have all sorts of trust to do this.” I’ve ingested at least a quart of it since then and, what’s best is that it is guilt-free. I am past five weeks of eating 100% raw–my goal was to transition over a period of years but I did it in four days. My daughter lasted for a little over a month and she was worn out from all the complicated recipes she was following and her health wasn’t improving. There is nothing heavy about the food in IRS vs. the recipes usually found that are full of nuts and seeds. This author realizes that nuts and seeds have their place in moderation but you won’t find many in his book. A perfect companion booklet is his The Best Foods on the Planet. It answered a lot of questions I had and gave me a clear direction.
I have several raw books and I only eat raw. This book was a real waste of money. The recipes were so simple (and many were untasty) that they were rediculous. For example: “Instant Veggie Soup” consisted of 2 c. tomatoes, 2/3 c. pineapple, 2 c. spinach and 3 stalks of celery. Mix and eat. Anyone can throw a bunch of fruits and vegetables together, but in raw cooking you need to make sure they taste good together. My favorite “fast food” raw book is “Raw Foods for Busy People” by Jordan Maerin. The recipes are simple AND delicious!
This book was a disappointment. Yes, the recipes are simple, but they’re pretty bland. Many of them use the same or similar ingredients, so a lot of the dishes taste the same; there isn’t much variety. The most interesting recipes in this book came from other chefs, and even they weren’t very good. Of all the recipes, I use only three: Roquette Me Soup, Avocado Mayo, and Submarine Rolls (which I modified and, I think, improved). I would not recommend this book for someone who’s just starting on raw foods. Instead, try “The Raw Food Detox Diet,” with “Raw Foods for Busy People” as a complement.
I’ve been following Philip since last year. I wanted more energy so I looked into the RAW Food Vegan lifestyle. I found it to be so great. I felt better, and lost alot of weight. (Within the first month alone I released 22 lbs.) I also wanted to find out about others within the community, and that’s when I found Phlip McCluskey-thank goodness. He also has an awesome website: [...]
Philip is SUPER down to earth, you feel like you know him. That’s what I LOVE about his DVD’s. The first one, “Transforming Your Life With Raw Food”-was so great because Philip has a way of talking to you as if he was right there with you, right in your living room. He makes it so interesting. I’m a teacher, and I think all of my 4/5th graders would have no problem keeping up and staying focused and interested. Philip is so supportive, and so giving-you can see it in the way he interacts with is audience. He also has some super great vidoes on his website, he’s so genuine. Philip gives us so many tips, while sharing his early challenges before RAW Food-that’s what key he invites you ALL the way into his life. This author spares nothing, from his thoughts of being morbidly obese to his first trials and funny moments while starting his RAW Food journey. In his second DVD, “Living Cuisine for Weight Loss”-he gives out alot more tips that we can use, he talks about alot of different things….about the use of “MSM”, and how effective RAW food is to your health. More importantly, his best tip that I’ve learned is that we shouldn’t listen to ANYONE else really when it comes to our health-it’s way too important. He states on his DVD-that he doesn’t have “the master plan” for you to follow, just his experience, and if we can take something from his experience then great, but the thing to do is to truly find what works for each of us individually. We can take bits and pieces from what Philip’s already done, and find out if that works for us, and then tweak it. I just love that about him! He’s so easy to listen to, and I also like the quality of the second DVD-you don’t even have to press play, and it continues in a loop-and I’ve listened to this DVD over and over and again, and I find that I pick up something new each time. His accounts are so full of truth, and honesty-he NEVER holds back. I appreciate how he talks about how some of us tend to use food as a medication and “not deal”, or “hide out”-from our feelings, and yet on RAW it all comes out and then we are forced to deal with those unresolved issues or emotions-this is so good for us-we NEED to hear stuff like this.
I CANNOT WAIT for his next DVD, and/or Movie? The thing is he’s super humble-so it might be awhile on a Movie, but it would be so worth the wait. Philip’s always got something in the works though as he continues to grow-which is great for us! :0) I’ve also REALLY got to order some of his many books on Raw Food recipes, you can find lots of recipes and other great stuff on his website. My FAVORITE thing about this author is that he keeps it’s all SIMPLE, and that I can totally dig!!!
I’m on day 12 of a “Juice Feast” because of Philip’s inspiration, and I can tell you that it does take some work-but gosh I’m LOVIING the way I’m feeling!!! I’m living life, and I’m getting rid of not only the toxins in my body, but alot of old unresolved emotions from waaay back. I cannot thank Philip enough for this experience. I am so truly blissed in my life right now becuase of him.
GET HIS DVD’s-YOU WILL LOVE THEM!!!

I loved this DVD! Philip shares his awesome RAW FOOD journey with us-and more importantly where it all started for him. It was great to hear his story. He makes it sound like anyone can do it, and guess what ANYONE can! Listen to your own voice, and use Philip as your inspiration. I mean if Philip can commit to RAW FOOD-which makes you feel great and gives you the tools to turn your life around-then the rest of us can do this too. Philip was a 400 lb man before, and with RAW Food not only is his weight much less-he’s living life with so much more of himself. Philip did NOT listen to people who told him, “You’re crazy!”, “You’re doing what?!”, “You can’t do that!” Nope, he followed his own heart, and made his own path. I feel like Philip’s Raw Food journey and my story are VERY similiar, I did the exact SAME THING he did. I went from burgers, fries, tacos, candy, milkshakes to RAW overnight. I didn’t listen to any else either. I want to keep this Raw Food lifestyle up. I want to commit to it because the benefits to your body and mind are truly priceless. Being on RAW FOOD is all about being creative, and yet you don’t have to spend alot of money or time…you really don’t. And as another FAVORITE author of mine Kris Carr would say just continue to go to YOUR pharmacy, like the “Whole Foods” pharmacy, or any other fresh produce markets, and stock up on your medicines-your green veggies and fruits. It’s far better than spending money on scripts at the old drug store-right? Be careful of anyone who tries to talk bad about RAW Food-as Philip would say research it for yourself-and then you get to decide what’s right for you and your body. As Philip says, “Are we going to believe these docs that stand in front of us with stomachs hangin’ over belts?” Yikes! I for one can say, I’ve had enough of that-and Philip’s right-we need to find our own truth and truly works for us-not what some professional dictates to us and then doesn’t follow it themselves? That makes zero sense.
I say thank you to Philip who’s shared with us a different and bolder path. It’s not always easy, because it’s not the norm-but when has easy or the norm EVER been worthwhile?
Check it out for yourself, it will be well worth it. If nothing else this DVD will leave you intrigued, and filled with questions, which I think is ALWAYS a great place for effective change.
With Great Gratitude,

This DVD is so special, and what I got from it was worth more then I paid. Philip is amazing soul and beautiful inside and out. I have been on again off again raw for about three years but Philip inspires beyond words. He never tells you what is right and what is wrong, he instead encourages you to follow your heart and see what works for you. His humour and jokes made me giggle and warmed my heart as well.
He is wise beyond words and so humble. His knowledge is mind blowing and it proves that do not judge a book by its cover. Philip may be young but his wisdom is ageless. He makes so much sense and its suprising he has only been doing this for around three years. He is very switched on and very confident in who he is. I loved watching this, it felt not like a lecture on DVD, but instead watching a friend tell me what he has done, what experience he has gained and how I can follow my own path. You won’t want to watch this only once. I can guarantee that you will put this on when you are feeling at a crossroads in your raw journey, when you just need a little background noise while you do stuff or just to reconnect and watch a brilliant soul. Even if you have been on your raw journey for many years, you will still benefit from this DVD. Philip is like no other and shines beyond the television screen.
